Movie Screening: Dune

Based on the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, "Dune" tells the story of an interplanetary struggle for control of a valuable resource among warring families and colonized people. Friday screening will be followed by a multidisciplinary discussion with faculty from departments across campus.

Enjoy the best of both worlds. The class begins with a high-powered flow and core work and ends with a gentle stretching and restorative poses.

Looking for cosmic fun this Halloween season? Would you like to meet the stars -- the stars of Halloween? Monsters, zombies, and ghosts -- and their far more terrible counterparts in space?

Oh yes, space has its monsters: Black holes, zombie stars, and spectacular ghostly nebulae! Closed captions available upon request. Watch a trailer here. Each show will be followed by a live presentation of Tonight’s Sky.

Tickets can be purchased online at the link below or at the door. https://www.tickets.umn.edu/UMDMWAP/Online/ Shows last about an hour. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Planetarium Show: Supermassive Black Holes: Uncovering the Invisible

Leading scientists in observational and theoretical studies of black holes and galaxies, industrial experts in cutting-edge big technologies, and professionals in science dissemination have been brought together to set up research projects which will combine the latest state-of-the-art observations, numerical simulations and innovative analytic tools to compare theory with observation, and shed light on the physics of black hole formation in the context of galaxy evolution. 

This planetarium show presents the environments of the black holes in an impressive and understandable way to the audience. Watch a trailer here. Each show will be followed by a live presentation of Tonight’s Sky.
